DC Singles Reviews for January 2012

Action Comics #5: A little heavy on the background aren’t we, Morrison?

RATING: B-

Animal Man #5: Unless you have a weak stomach, there is no reason you shouldn’t be reading this RIGHT NOW!

RATING: A+

Justice League International #5: Okay, now that this arc is over, can we get a better plot for these awesome characters to occupy?

RATING: C+

The Penguin, Pain and Prejudice #4: Nothing balances out the sadness than cute, mechanical penguins…that make birds attack children…damn.

RATING: B+

Stormwatch #5: Just enough exposition before a massive monkey wrench is thrown into the mix.

RATING: A-

Swamp Thing #5: Time to kick some Rot-butt and find Animal Man already!

RATING: A

Batwoman #5: Kate’s world just gets more complicated with the DEO ‘backing her up’.

RATING: A-

Demon Knights #5: FINALLY, some character background with a neat twist before another mammoth battle.

RATING: A

Frankenstein Agent of SHADE #5: The fight with OMAC was pointless, but the closer was interesting.

RATING: C+

Green Lantern #5: Sinestro continues to be a bad-ass by disabling his entire corps, turning them in for the Guardians and forcing Hal back to Earth.

RATING: B+

Batman #5: Wow, I completely regret not getting into this title sooner.

RATING: A+

Green Lantern Corps #5: Guy Gardner with guns and GL bad-asses!

RATING: B+

Wonder Woman #5: Lord Poseidon is a giant whale and I’m totally down with that.

RATING: A-

All-Star Western #5: Before there was Batman, there were man-sized bats.

RATING: B+

Aquaman #5: Stop hallucinating in the desert and get to the Atlantis arc already!

RATING: B

The Flash #5: That arc could have ended better, but the speed force closer holds much potential for future issues.

RATING: B-

Justice League #5: For being such a jerk, I’m kinda digging the Hal Jordan who could survive getting his arm broken by Darksied and keep on fighting.

RATING: B+

Green Lantern, New Guardians #5: Now it’s time for crazy planet quests with the Skittle brigade!

RATING: B

Best Worst Movie (2009)

There is an odd charm to the ironic enjoyment of Troll 2. Whether its the monologue about pissing on hospitality or the exaggerated reaction of goblins eating people, there is plenty of unintentional fun to be had with this ridiculous little movie. But what of the people behind the movie? Were they [...]

Winnebago Man (2009)

In 1989, Jack Rebney took it upon himself to write and star in an instructional video for a new line of Winnebagos. While filming in the balmy Iowa heat, Jack became frustrated as he flubbed his lines and tried to clear to clear flies from shots. Little did Jack know his outtakes went far beyond [..[...]

Tucker & Dale VS Evil (2010)

Slasher films depict a world where young people are easy targets for killers. Be they masked knife-wielders or supernatural forces, nobody under the age of 30 is safe. Any young person who saw enough of these movies would be terrified of the world. Tucker & Dale VS Evil attempts to put a unique [...]

And Her Name Is Marceline

For the past few months, I was filled with a mixture of anticipation and fear. Being responsible for a child seemed so unbelievable.  Am I ready to be a father? Can I hold a baby correctly? Will I ever sleep? So many questions raced through my head convinced that I was not ready for the [...][...]

The Adventures of Tintin (2011)

I’m very angry at Steven Spielberg right now after watching The Adventures of Tintin. No, I’m not displeased with his direction nor his decision to use motion-capture CGI. All of that is top-notch. What really has me steamed is that Steven Spielberg didn’t direct an animated featur[...]
